Technology
Self-driving, built to scale.
tonomy brain is the self-driving system behind our rides. We're designing it to drive without high-definition (HD) maps, cost less to build, and fit into vehicles from any automaker.
Our bets
Designed to read the road, not memorise it.
No HD maps.
HD maps are a nice-to-have for us, never a dependency. Navigation maps are for routing only. tonomy brain is designed to drive without them, so there's no mapping project standing between us and a new city.
Camera-first.
A vision-first approach with the smallest safe sensor suite and compute, on commodity automotive silicon. Cost is a design input from day one, not an afterthought.
One learned model.
One foundation model for perception, localisation, prediction and planning, with decisions designed to be verifiable and auditable.
One stack, pluggable.
Everything that matters is designed and controlled by us, and built to plug into the cars and parts automakers already have. Partners manufacture, to our design.
Simulation first.
Most of the learning is designed to happen in simulation and synthetic data, before fleet miles. It's faster and cheaper to learn there, before the car meets a public road.
Safety is independent.
An independent safety mechanism, designed to take over whenever needed, sits beside the model. The model's decisions are designed to be verifiable and auditable.
Why it scales
A new city shouldn't mean starting over.
New districts, not new projects.
We drive with the same standard navigation maps people use every day. With no HD maps to build or refresh, a new area is designed to need only a standard navigation map update.
Less to buy, less to see.
Camera-first, not camera-only: the smallest safe set of sensors, designed to cut cost and leave the car looking like itself.
One system, every place.
The same tonomy brain is designed to adapt to each new city and vehicle through training and over-the-air (OTA) updates, rather than being rebuilt.
For automakers
The non-invasive brain any automaker can install.
Pluggable by design.
Keep the compute, sensors and components you've already invested in; the reference hardware design is there to start from.
Ready for new markets.
Designed to drive with standard navigation maps, so a new market needs a map update, not a mapping project.
Learning on our own rides.
Our own rides in Riyadh will add real driving data to simulation and synthetic data.
